David plays both solo accompanying himself on guitar and with other musicians. He performs mostly his own material which ranges from gripping story songs, catchy tunes in the folk tradition and country ditties about love and heartache. He also performs traditional and folk material from both sides of the Atlantic, with a particular bent towards traditional ballads and songs of political or social significance.
Journeyman
David's new album of original songs, Journeyman, is to be released this summer. Produced and recorded by Mattie Foulds in the Borders, Scotland, Journeyman features the following musicians: Steven Polwart (guitar), Kevin McGuire (bass), Kim Edgar (Rhodes piano), Adam Sutherland (fiddle), Su-a Lee (cello) and Mattie Foulds (percussion)
Across The Troubled Wave
David releases his second album, Across The Troubled Wave, on 20th July 2009. It is a collection of 13 original and traditional songs from both sides of the Atlantic, including compositions by Robert Burns and Stephen Foster. David recorded the album with multi-instrumentalist Josh Goforth in a small studio in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina. David sings and plays guitar. Josh plays guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bass and sings harmony vocals, lending an old-time/bluegrass feel to the album.
Broken Sky
David's debut album, Broken Sky, was released in 2008 to glowing reviews. Named Album Of The Week by The Sunday Herald, BBC Radio Scotland's Iain Anderson Show, & Celtic Music Radio, Broken Sky is on the independent Glasgow label, Flamingo West. A host of great musicians feature on the album including Karine Polwart (vocals), Alan Thomson (bass, slide guitar), Josh Goforth (fiddle, mandolin, vocals), Alyn Cosker (drums), Sandy Butler (guitar), James Ross (piano), Karen Dietz and Yvonne Lyon (vocals).
A festival favourite
David has become a regular act on the UK festival circuit, playing some of the most prestigious folk festivals in the country, including: Celtic Connections, Towersey, Shrewsbury, Sidmouth, Gosport & Fareham, Beverley, Fylde, Broadstairs, Stokes Bay, Warwick, Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival, Raise Your Banners, the Wickerman, the Big Green Gathering, Shepley, Wickham and Knockengorroch. His Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, Scottish Folk Roots And Offshoots, sold out for dozens of consecutive nights in 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010. David will be returning to the Fringe with a new version of this show in 2011.

Music & Activism
As well as concert gigs David often takes his music to campaign groups and political rallies, opening for anti-war and peace meetings. Some of the speakers he has recently shared the platform with are: Tony Benn and Bruce Kent. He was the singer in residence on Scotland For Peace's Long Walk For Peace in September 2006.
Songs For Change
David runs a topical songwriting project called Songs For Change. Over 100 such songs from all over the world have been submitted to the website (www.songsforchange.com) and songs continue to be sent in.
Not In Our Name CD
In 2007 David released a compilation CD of folk songs about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Not In Our Name, with all profits going to Stop The War Coalition. This CD features songs by the following artists: Eliza Gilkyson, Dick Gaughan, Robb Johnson, Rory McLeod, Leon Rosselson, Jez Lowe, Amy Martin, Roy Bailey, Jose, Pat Humphries & Sandy O, and Mark Erelli. All of the above kindly donated their recordings to the album. You can order the CD from www.songsforchange.com.
