David Ferrard
Musicians
Some of the musicians David loves and admires who have great webpages (in alphabetical order):

Joan Baez - www.joanbaez.com - Queen of the US Folk revival and committed political activist.  David's first love and an endless source of inspiration.  That's her in the photo for those of you who don't know!

Roy Bailey - www.roybailey.net - MP Tony Benn describes him as 'the greatest socialist folk singer of his generation'.  David was thrilled to befriend him at a recent festival.

Laura Boosinger - www.lauraboosinger.com - one of David's favourite old-time American singers.

Kate Campbell - www.katecampbell.com - one of the US South's most literary songsmith with a strong social conscience.

Tom Clelland - www.tomclelland.com - Lanarkshire-based singer-songwriter whose musical storytelling is exquisite.  His debut album Little Stories is a very fine collection of songs.

Julie Dawid - www.juliedawid.co.uk - singer, songwriter, poet, actress, filmmaker extraordinaire.  You never know what Julie's going to bring to a gig, but it's always rewarding!

Julie Felix - www.knibb.org/juliefelix - one of the great protest singers from the 60s who had her own BBC TV show!  David has played support for her.

Fair Witness - www.fairwitnessmusic.com - David's trio's duo!  Sandy and Suzanne are amazing musicians, singers and composers.   Suzanne can sing Joni Mitchell songs without flinching and Sandy's guitar work is exquisite.  They are doing very well on the local scene.  Check them out before they hit the big time!

Tom Fairnie - www.tomfairnie.com  - one of Edinburgh's finest and most prolific singer-songwriters and a bit of a mentor to David.  Tom's Americana songs are as good as any from the O Brother Where Art Thou? film.

Dick Gaughan - www.dickalba.demon.co.uk - one of Scotland's most passionately political folk singers.  He's a regular performer at the Edinburgh Folk Club where David is Secretary.

Mary Gauthier - www.marygauthier.com - from Louisiana, Mary has a touch of the Southern Gothic about her writing and is a great inspiration to David.

Eliza Gilkyson - www.elizagilkyson.com - one of the best singer-songwriters from the States....her latest album Paradise Hotel was one of David's favourites of 2005 and she was the first artist to record Woody Guthrie's Peace Call in 2004 - David has included this beautiful peace anthem into his repertoire!

Josh Goforth - www.myspace.com/joshgoforthmusic - a rising star on the US bluegrass scene.  Josh plays fiddle, mandolin, guitar and harmony vocals on David's forthcoming album.

Emmylou Harris - www.emmylou.net - one of David's favourite singers and a committed activist to the anti-landmines issue.

Heeliegoleerie - www.heeliegoleerie.com - high energy folk band playing traditional and original tunes & songs.  They were (like David) winners of the Danny Kyle Award 2006.

Janis Ian - www.janisian.com - a brilliant singer-songwriter who's been at the top of her trade for four decades!  David was very proud to have played at the festival she headlined in April 2006.

Sara Kamin - www.sarakamin.com - one of David's many singer-songwriter friends and in his opinion an unrivaled writer of break-up songs.  Toronto-based Sara has a unique, soulful voice and to date she's been unable to write a bad lyric.  Her patter is as good as any stand-up's.  Sara needs to be heard live!

Jez Lowe - www.jezlowe.com - Northumberland's most accomplished songsmith.  David is a recent convert and is presently hunting for his entire (rather prolific) back catalogue.

Rory McLeod - www.rorymcleod.com - an English troubadour who takes his joyful songs of love and protest around the world. He plays just about everything percussive and the energy of his live performance is infectious.

Karine Polwart - www.karinepolwart.com - one of Scotland's finest singer-songwriters on the folk scene.  Karine sings harmony vocals on David's forthcoming album.

David Rovics - www.davidrovics.com - much admired contemporary US political singer-songwriter whom David invited to Edinburgh in November 2005 - all his songs can be downloaded for free!  That's generosity for you.

Lucinda Williams - www.lucindawilliams.com - nobody writes with greater simplicity and punch that Lucinda.  Her voice is literally bitter-sweet and her songs creep beneath the skin.  She's a Louisiana liberal and has some good songs about Christian fundamentalism!
