Here We Stand

I've played my most recent composition Here We Stand twice this week.  First at the Edinburgh French Institute's Fete de la Musique and then last night at a public meeting about the work done by Christian Peacemaker Teams in Palestine ( www.cpt.org ).  I often sing the 60s favourite Carry it on at marches/meetings and have thought to myself that I needed to write my own song for such occasions.  Here are the lyrics below.  I'll soon put the song up on my downloads page.

Here we stand

Here we stand
United in purpose
Together in service
Hand in hand
Here we sing
Voices of reason
A chorus of freedom
Rings throughout this land

Here we walk
Sisters and brothers
All creeds and colours
Side by side
Here we talk
Across the waters
Sons and daughters
Between us no divide

All of our lives
Are connected throughout time
We are the beating of a universal heart
We’ve been here before
In peace time and in war
Nobody’s borders can keep us apart

So come on stand
United in purpose
Together in service
Hand in hand
Come on sing
With voices of reason
A chorus of freedom
Rings throughout this land

Come on walk
With sisters and brothers
All creeds and colours
Side by side
Come on talk
Across the waters
All sons and daughters
Between us no divide
