Music at Marxism 2007

I was down in London last week attending the annual Marxism festival of revolutionary politics and resistance.  It was an amazing five days of talks, debates and cultural activities.  A lot of the events had a musicial link: a discussion with Billy Bragg about Englishness and identity politics, Blake's revolutionary poems set to music and read by poet Adrian Mitchell (who blockaded Faslane with me in December), Tony Benn and Roy Bailey's Writing On The Wall (a concise history of British working class resistance illustrated with song).  On the Friday night after a wonderful concert by Alistair Hulett and Jimmy Ross on the songs and left-wong politics of Ewan McColl I performed a set of my songs which went down very well.
